Who Cares for Whom? The Soul Care Continuum

Foundations for Every Believer

Churches care for people at several levels, from friends in a small group to trained counselors, and it helps to know how the levels fit together. This short orientation walks through the whole Discipleship and Care Continuum: who provides care at each level, when a need should move up, and where you fit. A good first course for anyone on this platform.

What You'll Work Through

Each unit is a conversation, not a page to read. The tutor asks you to explain, apply, and work with the material until it holds.

Chapter 1: One Continuum, Not Two Camps

Section 1.1: Why Care Belongs on a Continuum

  • The silo mindset divides a church into the well and the unwell
  • Care runs on one continuum from intentional to intensive

Chapter 2: Reading the Continuum

Section 2.1: The Four Zones and Who Cares at Each Level

  • The four zones of care: Intentional, Directive, Corrective, Intensive
  • Who cares at each zone, from small group member to elder

Chapter 3: Placing a Person on the Continuum

Section 3.1: Scoring S.O.S. and Naming the Zone

  • Scoring an S.O.S.: rating Severity, Ownership, and Support 1-10 each
  • Mapping the combined S.O.S. score to a continuum zone (3-10 Intentional, 11-15 Directive, 16-24 Corrective, 25+ Intensive)
