Keeping in Step: Walking in the Spirit

Freedom Groups

Galatians 5 says to walk by the Spirit, and the walking happens in small decisions: the commute, the inbox, the dinner table. This course makes the flesh-versus-Spirit choice concrete in daily situations and teaches you to look for the way of escape God provides in temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13).

What You'll Work Through

Each unit is a conversation, not a page to read. The tutor asks you to explain, apply, and work with the material until it holds.

Chapter 1: The Battle Within

Section 1.1: Two Desires at War (Galatians 5:16-25)

  • Galatians 5:16 command: walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the flesh
  • The flesh and the Spirit are opposed, so daily life is a battle of two desires
  • Walking by the Spirit is enablement, not self-help
  • Faith plus response: cooperating with the Spirit to bear fruit

Section 1.2: Taking Inventory of the Heart

  • The flesh-versus-Spirit inventory: asking 'Am I walking by the Spirit or gratifying the flesh right now?'
  • Identifying your Predominant Heart Attitude (PHA) by asking what surfaces when your heart is squeezed
  • Naming the redeemed fruit that God grows in place of your PHA

Chapter 2: Spirit-Led Decisions in Temptation

Section 2.1: Facing Temptation with God (1 Cor 10:1-13)

  • The four lies of temptation and God's countering truths (1 Cor 10:13)
  • Fleeing temptation means running TO Christ, not just away from sin

Section 2.2: Walking It Out in Daily Life

  • Naming the way of escape in a specific temptation (1 Cor 10:13)
  • Making the small-moment choice between flesh and Spirit at the dinner table, inbox, or commute
